The Humboldt Broncos extended their point streak to five games following a 5-3 win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Thursday night.

With the victory, the Broncos have picked up nine out of possible ten points and have now moved into a tie with the Melville Millionaires for sixth place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings.

Boris Kofman opened the scoring for Humboldt, deflecting a shot from defenceman Liam Rodman into the back of the net. The assist was Rodman’s first point as a Bronco since being acquired by the team at the January 10th trade deadline.

Marik Mamic extended the lead with his 16th goal of the year, as the Broncos led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Jeter Korte added to the Broncos advantage before the Hounds came back to cut the deficit down to a goal. Brayden Skogstad provided Humboldt with a much-needed insurance goal, to give the green and gold a 4-2 lead heading into the final period.

Notre Dame wouldn’t go away easily, answering back with a goal to trim the lead to 4-3.

Mamic would seal the game with his second goal of the game, this time an empty netter. Over the last three games, Mamic has scored two goals in each game.

Dazza Mitchell made 33 saves to earn the win.

Humboldt successfully killed off both penalties and didn’t receive a power play opportunity.

The Broncos are now off for the next eight days, some players along with Head Coach Brayden Klimosko are off to Winnipeg at the beginning of next week to take part in the SJ/MJ Showcase.

Next action for Humboldt is on Friday, January 31, when they begin another home-and-home set with the Battlefords North Stars, on the road in Battlefords.
