Estevan police responded to various incidents between Jan. 20 and Jan. 23, including thefts, extortion, and breaches of conditions, leading to multiple arrests and ongoing investigations.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) responded to several calls and incidents this week leading to multiple investigations and arrests.

On Jan. 20, police received a report of a male breaching the conditions of a peace bond. A statement was obtained from the victim, and the matter remains under investigation. Officers later attended to a vehicle stopped near the railway tracks on the west side of Estevan. The vehicle was removed without incident.

On Jan. 21, EPS responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle blocking a driveway. Members were unable to contact the registered owner, and the vehicle was removed. A report was received of a vehicle failing to stop for a school bus when the signal arm was extended, and the stop lights were flashing. A statement was obtained, and the matter remains under investigation. Several curfew checks were conducted, with all individuals found to be at home.

On Jan. 22, police responded to a report of a male unlawfully inside a residence. Officers attended, and the 34-year-old male left when asked to do so. EPS received a report of criminal extortion, which is under investigation. A vehicle reported stolen from Moose Jaw was believed to be parked at a residence in Estevan. Police attended the location but did not locate the vehicle.

Officers were notified of a theft at a local business where a male reportedly left the store without paying for items in his shopping cart. The matter is under investigation. A second theft at another business was reported the same day. Police arrested a 35-year-old male and a 35-year-old female from Frobisher as they fled to their vehicle in the parking lot. The male, who was serving a conditional sentence order for unrelated matters, was held in custody for breaching his sentence conditions and was additionally charged with theft. The female was charged with theft and later released.

Later that day, police attended a residence where an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance. Members mediated a resolution, and all parties remained at the residence.

On Jan. 23, EPS arrested a male from Alida on an outstanding warrant issued by the RCMP’s Carnduff detachment. He was released to appear in court at a later date. A 40-year-old male was arrested for extortion and lodged in cells to appear before a Justice of the Peace. He was remanded into custody.

The 35-year-old male arrested for theft on Jan. 22 was held in custody to appear in provincial court on Monday. Police also received a report of a female causing a disturbance at a local hotel. Officers attended, and no further issues were reported.
