The Portage Terriers pulled out a 3-2 overtime win against the Selkirk Steelers on Friday night.
Portage started the game strong scoring halfway through the first. Koy Funk tapped in a nice pass from Tristan Gravenor on the power play. Cam Bullinger started the play and picked up his 50th point of the season with the secondary assist. The game started getting chippy and off setting penalties were called to close out the period. 1-0 Portage after 1.
Portage increased their lead to two goals in the second period when Caleb Lepitre cleaned up his own rebound in front of the net. The teams kept getting involved behind the play and Portage took a late penalty. With nine seconds left Remy Hlady snuck a shot through Ryan Velan to get Selkirk on the board.
The Steelers continued to pour on the pressure as the Terriers paraded to the box with three straight penalties. Eventually Owen Warwick tied the game with the man advantage.
Once the game got to overtime Portage struck first. Off the faceoff win Owen Witt broke into the zone, hit Scott Cousins on the far side with a pass and he snapped it home. 3-2 Portage. Ryan Velan picked up his 9th win of the season in net.
The Terriers are back on the ice Sunday night in Winnipeg against the Freeze.
