Couples in the Pembina Valley looking for a lighthearted and meaningful night out are in for a treat. The Date Night Tour, a clean comedy event for couples presented by Fun and Faith, is making its return to Winkler on Monday, February 3rd. Hosted by Pathway Community Church in partnership with Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church, the event promises a night of laughter and connection.
A night to pause and laugh
“Life gets busy,” says Pastor Rob Haslam of Pathway Community Church. “Between work, bills, kids, and everything else, it’s easy to forget to take care of your marriage. Sometimes, couples need to hit pause and just enjoy each other’s company.”
Haslam emphasizes the importance of shared laughter in relationships. “There’s something amazing that happens when you laugh together. It opens up opportunities for deeper conversations and new points of connection. We want couples to thrive, and this event is all about creating space for that to happen.”
Comedy stars take the stage
The evening will feature two talented comedians: Leland Klassen and Andy Beningo.
Klassen, a veteran of the comedy scene with over 20 years of experience, is no stranger to local audiences. “He brings that family inside-joke vibe,” Haslam notes. “He knows the culture here, and his humour resonates in such a relatable way.”
Beningo, who has performed for Fortune 500 companies and has a Dry Bar Comedy special titled Adorable Tough Guy, is a fresh face for many. “He’s got a fantastic resume, including performing alongside Larry the Cable Guy,” Haslam adds. “I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table.”
The comedians will also engage with the audience through interactive games, including a dating-style game show for couples.
The power of laughter in relationships
Haslam points to research highlighting the importance of humour in fostering trust and connection, particularly for men. “If we can laugh with someone, we can trust them and communicate better. That’s true in friendships, and it’s even more powerful in a marriage.”
As for who’s the funnier one in his own marriage, Haslam laughs, “Oh, absolutely my wife Janet. Her sarcasm is next-level.”
Don’t wait to get tickets
With last year’s event selling out, Haslam urges couples to secure their spots soon. “We were shoehorning people in last time to make sure everyone had a seat,” he recalls.
Tickets for the event are available now at www.funandfaith.com. General admission tickets are $20 per person, with VIP tickets available for $30 per person, offering closer seating and more interaction with the comedians.
“It’s cheaper than a drive-thru dinner,” Haslam quips. “For just $20 a person, you can enjoy a night of great entertainment that will leave you laughing and feeling more connected with your partner.”
Whether it’s a long-term marriage or a new relationship, the Date Night Tour offers a chance to reconnect through laughter. “Jesus wants couples to have amazing relationships,” Haslam says. “This event is one small way we can support that.”
