For more than a year, Lisa Anderson of Anderson Family Vision Care has been on a mission to find the ideal lenses for Manitoba motorists. Having lost close family members in car accidents, this is something that has been a personal mission.

“There are lots of great options out there. We have been doing trials on different products and following patients who particularly struggle with various challenges related to driving. Recently, we discovered Driver’s Intelligence Lenses, from Shamir,” she says. “They knew exactly what people were looking for while driving, and they wanted to make sure that anywhere drivers were looking they’d have clear vision.”

While testing the lenses, the manufacturer outfitted professional drivers from the BWT Alpine F1® Team with special goggles that follow eye movement. As a result, they were able to know exactly where a driver was looking, and under what circumstances, and by experimenting with different algorithms they ensured peripheral vision was clear when looking into the mirrors or shoulder-checking. Additionally, Shamir came up with an anti-glare coating that winter drivers will find especially helpful.

“A lot of people say they have issues with their vision when they’re driving, whether it be night-time, glare from headlights, brightness of snow during the day or being able to see their mirrors, especially in a progressive lens,” Anderson explains. “And here in Manitoba, we have blizzards and icy roads and bright snow that are added hazards to the roads.”

Many motorists will also be familiar with the unique challenges posed by driving at different times of the day – or night. With that in mind, the Driver’s Intelligent Lens is available in both daytime and nighttime versions.

“Shamir optimizes your prescription for nighttime driving. You actually need a slight change to see optimally during the day versus during the night,” says Anderson.

To promote safer driving, especially during the winter, Anderson Family Vision Care is offering both pairs of Driver’s Intelligent Lenses for the price of one. Plus, customers get an additional 20% off if they make their purchase before the end of February.

“Over the last week or so I’ve seen a lot of accidents. We’ve had some crazy road conditions,” Andersons says, referencing the mid-January storms, road closures and vehicle pileups. “There’s a lot to worry about when you’re on the road. Being able to stay safe starts with knowing the problems that lie ahead. It helps to have lenses that help you see at an optimal level.”

As a free bit of advice, she recommends storing sunglasses indoors instead of inside your vehicle to prevent them from fogging up. It’s better to keep them in your bag and in their case so they’ll be good to go when you need them.

To take advantage of the Driver’s Intelligence Lens promotion, or to access any other eye care, Anderson says people can simply call into one of their stores – in Steinbach, Selkirk, Pine Falls and Winnipeg – to make an appointment with an optician or if they need a new prescription, book an eye exam.

“We’ll find out exactly what the best option is for you,” she says. “We want to do what we can to help you stay safe on the road.”
