WPS recover stolen copper wire, funds returned to business owner

The Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of stolen copper wire from a business last week. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says they were able to recover the stolen goods. 

“We did find where it was stolen from and the copper was sold, unfortunately, but we were able to return the money to the owner.” 

Copper wire is a common target for theft to be sold to salvage yards. Theft is also frequently linked to underlying causes including addictions.

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 58 calls for service last week, resulting in twelve charges being laid. Seven under the Criminal Code of Canada, and five under the Traffic Safety Act.
