If you’ve spent any time in the Pembina Valley, chances are you’ve heard Kathy Blatz before you’ve even met her. Her laugh is unmistakable—full, contagious, and capable of lighting up an entire room. It’s a sound that turns heads, not just because it’s joyful, but because it reminds everyone in earshot how good it feels to let loose and laugh.

Blatz’s laughter is so well-known that even Pastor Rob Haslam mentioned her as someone he loves to have in the audience—or more accurately, loves to hear in the audience. That’s why it’s fitting that Blatz is a winner of a pair of tickets to the "Date Night" event (now sold out), a comedy-filled evening sure to bring even more joy her way.

A life filled with laughter

Blatz has a way of finding humour in everyday moments. Whether pulling a long-forgotten chicken breast out of her purse at the grocery checkout or accidentally bringing a beeping kitchen timer into a store, she embraces the chaos of life with a smile. Her ability to laugh at herself makes her even more endearing to those around her.

But her story isn’t just about laughter. She openly shares that she lives with bipolar disorder—something that brings both vibrant highs and difficult lows. “It’s like I’m two different people,” Blatz says. “Either you see me laughing, or you don’t see me at all.” When she’s struggling, she often stays home, making it difficult to plan too far ahead. But when the good days come, she embraces them fully.

The power of openness

Talking about mental health hasn’t always been easy for Blatz but she’s found that being open with close friends has been freeing. “They say, ‘Just come over and sit here.’ That means so much,” she shares. Her honesty is a gift, reminding others facing similar struggles that they are not alone.

A night of laughter ahead

On February 3rd, Kathy Blatz will be in the audience at the Date Night comedy tour, featuring comedians Andy Beningo & Leland Klassen. We hope this event brings even more joy to Blatz's world. And if you hear a laugh that makes the whole room light up, you’ll know exactly who it is.
