The Morden Chamber of Commerce Business Awards banquet took place Thursday, January 30th, and were a celebration of excellence, community spirit, and dedication to local businesses. With 190 attendees representing 45 businesses, the evening highlighted remarkable achievements that contribute to the growth and success of Morden.
Pharmasave takes the business excellence award
Pharmasave, a staple of Morden’s downtown for nearly 30 years, was named the recipient of the coveted Business Excellence Award. Charlene Friesen, the store’s manager, was overcome with humility and appreciation when the win was announced. "What went through my mind was humility and appreciation," Friesen shared. "I couldn't believe that this was actually happening to us. All the hard work and the challenges we’ve faced...I am just so proud of our staff and our community for supporting us the way that they have."
Pharmasave was selected from a strong pool of nominees, which also included Eagle Eye Printing and Design and Krahn Friesen Neufeld Chartered Accountants. Morden Chamber President Tyler Schroeder noted, “Congratulations to Pharmasave for winning the Business Excellence Award tonight. There was some tough competition with Krahn, Friesen, Neufeld Chartered Accountants, and Eagle Eye Printing and Design, but Pharmasave is well deserving.”
Community builders shine bright
The Community Builder Award for an individual went to Shannon Samatte-Folkett of the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation. Samatte-Folkett expressed her gratitude with a mix of emotion and humility as she reflected on the recognition. “This one was really tough,” she said. “I love being in the background, so being in the spotlight is hard for me, but I truly appreciate it. I don’t do this alone. I have an amazing team who helps me every step of the way. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and this community has wrapped its arms around me, and I’m so grateful for that.”
The Community Builder Award in the Business category went to Gardenland Coop, while Regional Connections received the Community Builder Award in the Non-profit category. These organizations were recognized for their unwavering contributions to Morden and the surrounding area.
Entrepreneurial excellence celebrated
Bevan and Sandra Wiebe were named Entrepreneurs of the Year, a recognition that highlights their drive and passion for business success in the community. Their entrepreneurial spirit has played a vital role in shaping Morden’s economy, and their hard work continues to inspire other local entrepreneurs.

Lifetime achievement award recognizes Morden Nurseries
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Morden Nurseries in honor of their 60 years of service to the community. Their long-standing presence has been integral to the growth and development of Morden, and their dedication to quality and customer service has made them a beloved institution in the area.

A night of gratitude and celebration
The evening's success was a testament to the hard work of Morden Chamber Executive Director Claire Agnew, who helped pull off the event. Chamber President Tyler Schroeder expressed his gratitude to the community: "Thank you to the community at large. We feel your support. We appreciate you, and we see you. Please continue to support local, shop local, and hooray for Morden!"
