February is Black History Month, a time to honour the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black communities across Canada and beyond.
Throughout the month, a variety of events and activities will take place, offering opportunities for learning, celebration, and reflection. Here are some key events happening this Black History Month:
Early Events in Winnipeg
While February 1 marks the official start of Black History Month, Winnipeg got a head start with several events already occurring:
Winnipeg's Black History Month events began with a Community Market on January 23 at Club Regent Event Centre, followed by the Black Student Union Summit on January 24-25 at The Huddle. The Opening Ceremonies took place on January 26 at New Anointing Christian Fellowship, and a kickoff breakfast at City Hall featured the Mayor and other community leaders.
