February is Black History Month, a time to honour the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black communities across Canada and beyond.

Throughout the month, a variety of events and activities will take place, offering opportunities for learning, celebration, and reflection. Here are some key events happening this Black History Month:

Early Events in Winnipeg

While February 1 marks the official start of Black History Month, Winnipeg got a head start with several events already occurring:

Winnipeg's Black History Month events began with a Community Market on January 23 at Club Regent Event Centre, followed by the Black Student Union Summit on January 24-25 at The Huddle. The Opening Ceremonies took place on January 26 at New Anointing Christian Fellowship, and a kickoff breakfast at City Hall featured the Mayor and other community leaders.

  • Book Release: Devon Clunis

    Details: Devon Clunis, Winnipeg's former police chief, and Canada’s first Black police chief, launches his autobiography. Open to all.

  • Sankofa Lecture in Honour of Black History Month

  • Canadians and Black History: Navigating Our Multiculturalism

    Location: 130 Agriculture Building, University of Manitoba

    Details: Presentations, panel discussion, and a light lunch featuring traditional foods.

  • Afro-Caribbean Association of MB Cultural Day & Movie Night

  • Threads: A Fashion Demonstration

  • IGNITE Winnipeg

  • 2025: Conversation with Black Women in Leadership

    Details: A discussion on Black leadership, legacy, and future generations.

  • BHM History Lesson and Family Day
