The Senior hockey league playoffs got underway this past weekend.
Long Lake Hockey League
In the Long Lake Hockey League, the three first round matchups began with the road teams earning victories.
The Lanigan Pirates beat the Wynyard Monarchs 5-1 on Saturday night. Lanigan will have the opportunity to sweep the best of three series at home on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Watrous Winterhawks stunned the Leroy Braves on Sunday with a 7-4. Watrous host Leroy on Thursday night with a chance to move on to the second round.
The Drake Canucks and the Wadena Wildcats exchanged home-ice victories, on Saturday Drake won 2-1, while on Sunday, Wadena managed to stay alive with a 2-1 overtime win. The deciding game three is Wednesday back in Drake.
Wheatland Hockey League
The Wheatland Hockey Playoffs kicked off on Friday night.
The St.Brieux/Lake Lenore needed three unanswered goals in the final period to beat the Kelvington Wheat Kings 4-3. Game two of the series is this Friday night in Kelvington.
In Nokomis, the Jansen Jets blanked the Hudson Bay Hunters 5-0. Game two is next Friday (Feb.14) in Hudson Bay.
Twin Rivers Hockey League
The Twin Rivers Hockey League regular season wrapped up this past weekend. Among the final regular season games saw the Shellbrook Elks beat the Bruno T-Birds 9-1 on Friday and the Cudworth Tricky Maroons were defeated by the Dalmeny Sabres 6-3.
Playoffs will begin this weekend with the divisional semifinals. Cudworth will meet the Allan Flames. Game one is on Friday in Allan with game two in Cudworth on Saturday. If necessary, game three is next Friday (Feb.14) in Allan.
Bruno takes on Birch Hills in the East Division playoff matchup. Game one is Friday night in Birch Hills. Game two is next Friday (Feb.14) in Bruno. If necessary, game three would be the following night, back in Birch Hills.
