The SJHL weekly award winners had a Humboldt Broncos theme to them following their weekend sweep of the Battlefords North Stars.  

Humboldt won both games by a combined score of 15-5, and as expected, were recognized by the league for their efforts.  

Forward Jacob Strizzi was named the SGEU MVP of the Week. The last two games, Strizzi had 9 points (3G-6A), including a hat-trick in Friday’s 5-2 win in Battlefords.  

Following the weekend’s action, the Vaughan ON product sits on top of the league for points (55) and is tied for the SJHL leaders in goals (26).  

His linemate, Kye Benoche was named the Bourgault Forward of the Week. Like Strizzi, Benoche was able to record a hat-trick of his own, this time in Saturday’s 10-3 victory. Over the weekend, the Campbell River, BC product had 7 points (3G-4A) following an appearance at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg.  

Ryder Knutson was also a weekly award winner, as he was named the SuperU Defenceman of the Week. Knutson recorded 6 points (1G-5A) including a four-point night (1G-3A) on Saturday. He’s already surpassed his career-high totals from last year with 15 points (4G-11A). 

One of the newest members of the Broncos also was recognized as Dazza Mitchell was named the SaskTel Goalie of the Week. Mitchell backstopped Humboldt in both of their victories this weekend and had a 934 SV% and a 2.50 GAA. Since joining the Broncos in the beginning of January, Mitchell is 5-2-0-1 and has a 926 SV% with a 2.72 GAA.
