The Portage Terriers picked up their 5th win in a row on Saturday night beating the Swan Valley Stampeders 3-2 in a shootout.

The long bus trip to Swan River seemed to be a factor for the Terriers as they started the first period slowly. Riley Fequet was left alone in front of the net on the power play and he opened the scoring for the Stampeders. Swan Valley outshot the Terriers 11-3 in the first period.

Portage started to pick up their play in the second period and tied the game at one. The puck was thrown in front of the net and Decker Mujcin batted it out of the air. 1-1 after two.

Will McKay gave the Terriers their first lead of the game early in the third; he drove to the net and tucked it home. Ethan MacTavish banged in a puck in front of the net four minutes later to tie the game. Portage outshot the Stampeders the rest of the way but it remained tied going into overtime.

The extra frame solved nothing and the game went to a shootout.

In the shootout Portage had goals from Cam Bullinger, Tristan Gravenor and Dawson Madden and won the game in five rounds. The Terriers finished the night 0/2 on the power play and were 0/1 on the penalty kill.

Portage is back in action on Wednesday night against the Winnipeg Blues at Stride Place. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
