Think of it as an extended royal family – and one that keeps on growing.
Having recently purchased King’s Department Store, new owner Jade Moore appreciates the family element of a business that has been a fixture of downtown Carlyle for more than 40 years.
“We’re a family at King’s,” she says, adding that the store was owned and operated by the King family until she bought it. “We want everyone to feel like a part of our family when they come in.”
As its name suggests, King’s was initially a traditional, small town department store that supplied the community with a wide variety of products. Over time it narrowed its focus to its current inventory of brand-name clothing and footwear. Rural Saskatchewan shoppers can now find items from New Balance, Under Armour, Silver Jeans, Levis, Blundstones, Northbound, O’Neill and Country Liberty at the 124 Main St location.
While customers are able to buy similar products from online retailers, Moore believes the personal touch is something more and more shoppers are looking for.
“It’s beautiful to be able to come into a store and try on the jeans and see how they fit before purchasing,” she says. “We’re constantly bringing in new brands as well, which keeps our customers on trend with the newest technology in apparel and footwear.”
Moore’s staff assist her in the buying process, selecting clothing and footwear that will be in style for the coming season. She says she also wants her customers to be aware of new trends. It’s that family element, again.
Unique to King’s Department Store is a generous return policy that removes time limits for customers. So long as an item hasn’t been worn, they’ll accept the return after a week, a month, a year, and even more.
“No questions asked – we’ll gladly accept your return for cash or exchange,” says Moore. “I think it’s really important, especially if you’re buying a gift for someone. If it doesn’t fit, that person can come in and exchange it for their actual size, even a year later.”
It’s all about making everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and part of the King’s family.
“We love seeing our customers’ smiling faces, and we want them to come to King’s because it feels like home,” says Moore. “Always know that we’re just a phone call away.”
King’s Department Store can be reached by calling (306) 453-6557, and customers are welcome in-store at 124 Main St in Carlyle between 9am and 6pm, Monday thru Saturday. The store is also active on Instagram and Facebook.
“I just want to say thank-you to all the customers who have been supporters of King’s Department Store since 1982,” Moore concludes. “I really appreciate everyone’s support going forward with my new ownership. It’s been wonderful. So thank you for that.”
