The first round is in the books for the Long Lake Hockey League and upsets were the story. 

The Drake Canucks defeated the Wadena Wildcats in a hard fought three-game series that featured a pair of one-goal games, including game two that went into overtime.  

Despite finishing in last place during the regular season, the Lanigan Pirates are heading to the second round after defeating the Wynyard Monarchs 2-1 in the best of three series. The road teams won all three contests in the series, including Wynyard taking game two in Lanigan on Saturday 7-3, but the Pirates battled back on Monday to claim the series with a 5-1 win.  

The Watrous Winterhawks stunned the Leroy Braves with a two-game sweep. They punched their ticket to the second round with a 6-5 overtime win on home ice.  

Foam Lake already had a reserved spot in the second round following a first-place finish in the regular season.  

No dates for the second round have been announced as of Tuesday morning.  

 

In the Twin Rivers Hockey League, the Cudworth Tricky Maroons and Allan Flames are heading to a deciding game three after the teams split the first two games. Allan opened the series with a home ice win, but Cudworth kept their season alive with a 5-4 overtime win on Saturday.  

The Bruno T-Birds will attempt to win two games this weekend as they trail in their series with the Birch Hills Blackhawks 1-0. Game two is Friday night in Bruno and if the T-Birds win on Friday, game three is Saturday night back in Birch Hills.  

In the West Division semifinals, Willow Cree leads Dalmeny 1-0, and Rosthern is up 1-0 against Shellbrook.  

 

Over in the Wheatland Hockey League playoffs, the St.Brieux/Lake Lenore Rivals are heading to a deciding game three in the series with the Kelvington Wheat Kings after the Wheat Kings took game two in Kelvington with a 6-5 overtime victory. Game three is Friday night in St. Brieux.  

The Jansen Jets have a 1-0 lead over the Hudson Bay Hunters in their series. Game two is Friday in Hudson Bay and if necessary, game three is Saturday in Nokomis. 

The other two first round series are in the books, with Tisdale sweeping Carrot River in two games, and Kinistino also registering a two-game sweep against Porcupine Plain.
