A new event is set to bring together churches from across southern Manitoba for a weekend of faith, learning, and worship. The Jesus Conference, happening February 21-22 at Winkler Bible Camp, aims to create a space for adults to deepen their faith and explore big questions about Christianity.

Darren Redekopp, the keynote speaker, explained the inspiration behind it. “A number of pastors came together last fall, along with the leadership of Steinbach Bible College, asking the question: what can we do together as churches in this region? And more than that, how can we provide people with that spark moment—something many of us experienced at youth retreats but don’t often have as adults?”

With that idea in mind, church leaders created a conference focused entirely on Jesus—what he means to believers and how his life impacts people today.

A ‘youth retreat for adults’

For many, faith-based retreats are a significant part of their youth. The Jesus Conference is designed to bring that same experience to adults.

“I think that’s a good way to think about it—half youth retreat, half Bible school moment,” Redekopp says. “We want to have that emotional aspect of worship, but we also want to ask deep questions, like: What does it mean that a first-century Galilean died on a Roman cross? How does that affect me today?”

The two-day event will include four main sessions:

  1. He belongs to us – Exploring Jesus’ humanity and what it means for believers.
  2. He belongs to the Father – Understanding how Jesus’ identity was shaped by scripture.
  3. He gave himself for us – A deeper look into the meaning of Jesus’ crucifixion.
  4. So that we could belong to him – What it means to live as a follower of Christ.

“These are the kinds of questions that almost feel forbidden to ask in church,” Redekopp notes. “But Jesus said, ‘I am the truth.’ If that’s the case, then we shouldn’t be afraid to ask anything.”

A weekend of learning, connection, and community

Mike Giesbrecht, one of the event organizers, emphasized the importance of bringing churches together.

“The world is full of division,” Giesbrecht says. “So when you have people saying, ‘Let’s learn together, let’s be united in this,’ that’s exciting. This conference is about focusing on what unites us—Jesus.”

The conference welcomes a wide range of attendees. Whether someone is a long-time believer looking for a faith renewal, a curious seeker exploring Christianity, or someone wanting to connect with other Christians, the event offers something for everyone.

“We’re really looking forward to getting away, learning together, and growing in faith,” Giesbrecht says. “And don’t worry—there won’t be any pillow fights like back at Bible camp. We’re adults now… we know our limits!”
