The following is the RCMP report to February 9th, 2025.  This reporting period, police responded to the following calls for service.

 

- 17 traffic violations

- 7 provincial statute (Mental Health Act, Fire Prevention Act, Coroner's Act, 911 Act)

- 19 common police activities (alarms, suspicious persons/vehicles, assistance to general public)

- 17 crimes against property 

- 12 other criminal code

- 6 crimes against person

- 2 traffic accidents

 

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Just a reminder that RCMP DO NOT do child abuse and adult abuse registry checks.  RCMP is responsible for criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks.  You require a vulnerable sector check if you are in a position of trust. You must present to the detachment when applying for a vulnerable sector check. 

Position of Trust means a paid or voluntary position dealing with vulnerable people. Vulnerable people may include children, youth, the elderly, people with physical, developmental, emotional, social, or other disabilities, people who are addicted or dependent on addictive substances, and people who have been the victim of a crime or an accident.

Applicants who require a Vulnerable Sector Check from their organization must present themselves in person and provide written consent in order for the checks to be conducted.

Proper identification must be produced and recorded on the application: a government issued photo identification for the Primary Document, and a secondary document which verifies the Primary identification.

 

YOUTH CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

Criminal record checks cannot be done on youth unless working in Government. It has been established that non-provincially or municipally run summer camps and pools, public/private schools including colleges/universities are not government employers.

 

January 21, 2025

Police received a report of a fraud in Boissevain. The complainant had received a call from someone claiming to be with the anti-fraud unit stating their bank account had been hacked and was looking to get their personal information. No personal information was provided and no money was lost. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

 

January 22, 2025

Police received a report of a theft in Hartney. Police followed up with the complainant and the surrounding businesses however there was insufficient evidence to proceed at this time.

Police received a report of mischief in Hartney. After further investigation the matter was deemed unfounded.

Police received a report of fraud in the RM of Brenda-Waskada. The complainant had received a phone call stating they were the winner of 2.8 million dollars as well as a new truck. The complainant was told that they had entered the draw while at Canadian Tire. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

While patrolling, police completed a traffic stop in Holmfield. A male was arrested for driving while prohibited, and later released on an appearance notice to appear in court. The vehicle was towed.

 

January 24, 2025

Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle in the RM of Prairie Lakes. After several attempts, police were unable to locate the registered owner and the vehicle was towed.

 

January 25, 2025

Police received a report of mischief in the RM of Brenda-Waskada. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

 

January 26, 2025

Police responded to a call for an assault in Killarney. A male was arrested and released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

Police responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision in the RM of Prairie Lakes. After ensuring the driver was not injured, a roadside screening device was provided which resulted in 2 failed readings from the driver. A male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and lodged in cells. The male was released on an appearance notice to appear in court at a later date. The vehicle was towed.

Police responded to a 911 call for mischief in Killarney. Members attended and located a male in distress that was transported to the hospital.

 

January 27, 2025

Police responded to a call under the mental health act in the RM of Cartwright-Roblin.

 

January 28, 2025

Police received a report of theft in Baldur. Member followed up with the complainant however there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a call for an animal complaint in the RM of Argyle. Police provided the complainant with additional resources to call as the issue was not a police matter.

Police responded to a call for a vehicle collision in the RM of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. There were no injuries and police departed.

While patrolling, police completed a traffic stop on a vehicle without a license plate. The driver failed to pull over. A male was arrested for flight from police as well as refusing a breath demand. He was lodged in cells and later remanded to Brandon.

Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the RM of Deloraine-Winchester. Patrols were made but the vehicle was not located.

Police responded to a call for an assault in Killarney. A male was arrested for assault and failure to comply with a release order.  He was lodged in cells and later released on a release order.

Police responded to a call for a vehicle collision in the RM of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. There were no injuries. Police assisted with traffic control then departed.

 

January 29, 2025

Police received a report of a fraud in Hartney. Police followed up with the complainant however there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of a possible break and enter in Killarney. Police attended the location and spoke with the complainant however there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in Deloraine. Patrols were made however the vehicle was not located.

 

January 31, 2025

Police received a report of a possible fraud in Killarney. There was insufficient evidence to proceed at this time.

Police responded to a 911 call for a possible assault in Killarney. A male was arrested for failure to comply with a release order, lodged in cells, then remanded to Brandon.

Police responded to a 911 call for a fire in the RM of Killarney-Turtle Mountain. The fire was deemed not suspicious, there were no injuries and police departed.

 

February 1, 2025

Police received a report of a theft of vehicle in Waskada. Police followed up with the complainant who stated they had figured out the situation and police were no longer required. The matter was concluded.

Police responded to a 911 call for an assault with weapon in Waskada. A male was arrested, lodged in cells and later remanded to Brandon.

Police responded to another call of a possible assault in Boissevain. The subject of complaint was gone on arrival. Patrols were made and the female was located. After further investigation it was determined no assault had taken place. The female was arrested and lodged it cells until sober and released without charges.

 

February 3, 2025

Police received a report of a suspicious person in Baldur. Police patrolled the area and located the person in question and the matter was concluded.

 

February 4, 2025

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Baldur. The matter was concluded.

Police received a report of fraud in Belmont. The complainant had received a call stating their amazon information was stolen. No information was lost. The complainant was reporting for information purposes only.

Police responded to a call for failure to comply with a release order. A male was arrested and lodged in cells. He was later remanded to custody in Brandon.

 

February 5, 2025

Police received a report of a break and enter in Baldur. Police followed up with the complainant however there was insufficient evidence to proceed at this time.

Police received a report of fraud in Killarney. The complainant received a call from someone claiming to be with Stars ambulance stating they had won a prize and looking to collect their information. No money or information was provided. The complainant was reporting for information purposes only.

Police received a report of a break and enter in Killarney. The matter is under investigation.

 

February 6, 2025

Police received a report of a theft of truck in Killarney. The matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle Killarney with possible stolen property. The matter is under investigation.

 

February 7, 2025

Police responded to a request for a wellbeing check in Boissevain. All parties were located safe.

Police received a 911 hang up call in Killarney. Police were able to call the person back and determine they were not required.

 

February 8, 2025

Police responded to a request for a wellbeing check in Belmont. All parties were located safe.

Police responded to another request for a wellbeing check in Killarney. All parties were located safe.

Police responded to a 911 call for a possible assault in Ninette. After speaking to both parties, it was determined no assault had taken place. Police departed.

Police received a report of a suspicious person in Killarney. The matter is under investigation.

It is important to report ALL thefts, stolen or lost property to police in a timely fashion so that it can be followed up on by police.

Police continue to remind residents to never provide personal information such as birth dates, SIN numbers, credit card numbers, or e-mail address to parties you do not know.  If you feel that you have been contacted by a fraudulent source, please contact police or Canadian Antifraud Center immediately for further instructions on what you can do.  Canadian Antifraud Centre can be reached directly at 1-888-495-8501, however also report same to the local detachment.

Due to the many reports of vehicle thefts, the public is reminded to secure parked and unattended vehicles and refrain from leaving valuables in plain view.

We would like to advise that the business hours of operation at the Killarney Detachment are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. 

Boissevain Detachment business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

RCMP WOULD LIKE TO REMIND THE PUBLIC TO USE THE POLICE EMERGENCY LINE FOR YOUR LOCAL OFFICE (204) 523-7255 or 911.  The administration line may not be checked until the following day or possibly the Monday following a weekend.  Members may be in another community or on the road. 

DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE IF YOU REQUIRE IMMEDIATE POLICE ASSISTANCE, YOU MUST DIAL 204-523-7255 (Killarney), 204-534-7261 (Boissevain), 204-747-2575 (Deloraine) OR 911 TO HAVE A POLICE OFFICER RESPOND TO YOU.  This will dispatch an officer without dispatching ambulance and fire unless required.
