The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) has appointed Laurel Feltin as its new executive director, marking a historic milestone as the first woman to hold the position. Feltin officially stepped into the role on Dec. 2, 2024, succeeding Jay Meyer.

Feltin, who has been with SARM for 20 years, says the organization and its members have been at the heart of her career.

“Rural Saskatchewan is built on a can-do attitude. These are the people who volunteer, step up, and make things happen. Being a part of that means more to me than any title,” Feltin said.

SARM’s acting president, Bill Huber, expressed confidence in Feltin’s leadership, citing her expertise, dedication, and strong work ethic over the past nine years.

“It’s an absolute privilege to continue working with Laurel as we move into this next chapter—one that rural Saskatchewan will help shape,” Huber said.

Feltin will oversee her first SARM Annual Convention from March 11–13, 2025, where she plans to focus on relationship-building and direct engagement with members.

“I want to be out on the convention floor, not just shaking hands, but really listening—learning what matters most to our members at home,” she said. “That’s my goal this year: listening, learning, and strengthening connections.”
