The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has concluded an investigation into an RCMP officer’s use of force against a person in custody on Samson Cree First Nation.
The evidence gathered during ASIRT’s investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed.
The investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to determine whether the evidence met the standard for prosecution.
Following a review of the investigation and having been advised that the ACPS was of the opinion that the evidence did meet their standard for prosecution, Michael Ewenson KC, ASIRT Executive Director determined that the officer involved should be charged.
On Feb. 18, Christopher Larsen was charged with causing bodily harm.
He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on April 15.
