Due to stable conditions, officials stated that further updates would be provided only if the situation changed.
Initial response and concerns
Just after 8 p.m., Rocky View County officials noted that emergency crews had responded to the fire, working alongside multiple emergency services to contain the blaze.
There was no immediate need for evacuation. Crews had created fire breaks and secured additional water supplies. Windy conditions had prompted officials to closely monitor the situation, and they were prepared to respond if conditions changed.
Earlier in the evening, Tsuut’ina Nation officials reported that a wildfire had been burning in the TTN New Lands. Redwood Fire Department had assumed incident command, with Tsuut’ina Fire & Rescue and Rocky View County crews also on the scene.
Incident command initially considered a possible evacuation for residents but later determined it was unnecessary. Rocky View County provided a grader to plow a fire guard, though officials noted that radiant heat remained a concern.
Authorities also sought an excavator or equipment with grappling capabilities to assist with fire suppression efforts.
Traffic safety concerns and emergency operations
At 7:44 p.m., Redwood Meadows Emergency Services had posted on social media and urged Wintergreen and Tsuut’ina residents to stay off the roads near the fire. Officials reported that some people had attempted to watch the fire, which was hampering response efforts and putting first responders at risk.
"It is critical that all fire departments have clear access into and out of the area," Redwood Meadows officials stated on Facebook. "We are asking residents in the area to stay in their homes—do not drive or walk to watch the fire or the first responders—as this is hampering crew efforts and endangering their safety."
Later in the evening, Redwood Meadows Fire confirmed that multiple departments had been working together to extinguish the fire.
"120 Tender is hard at work tonight as part of a tender shuttle to put out a slash fire on the Nation," officials stated. "Crews are using the truck fill station at the Bragg Creek Water Treatment Plant to refill tenders from RMES, Tsuut’ina, Priddis, and Rocky View County Fire Services."
Rocky View County officials thanked all emergency services and partner agencies for their coordinated response to the wildfire.
