The Town of Didsbury’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has resigned following a special closed council meeting on Feb. 24 that discussed personnel matters.

Council voted to accept Ethan Gorner’s resignation, effective immediately. Gorner served as CAO since January 2020.

"We thank Mr. Gorner for his time and service to the organization and the community," Mayor Rhonda Hunter said in a statement. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

The meeting was called under Section 194 of the Municipal Government Act. It was held in a closed session under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, which pertains to personal privacy and employment-related discussions.

The council named Amanda Riley, the town’s chief financial officer, acting CAO while determining the next steps.

"The Town will continue with the good work and important projects already underway," Hunter said, adding that council has "full support and appreciation" for staff.

DiscoverAirdrie has contacted the Town of Didsbury for comment to clarify whether Gorner’s resignation was voluntary if severance was involved and to explain why the matter was addressed in a closed session.

The town has also been asked about the hiring process for a permanent CAO.
