Three individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to a kidnapping with a firearm in Samson Cree Nation.
On the evening of Feb. 24, 2025, Maskwacis RCMP responded to a call to assist Emergency Medical services in Samson Cree Nation with a male sustaining a gunshot wound.
Officers arrived on scene and obtained information that the victim had been kidnapped and tied to a chair in the basement of a residence in Samson Cree Nation. The victim was beaten and received a gunshot wound.
Three suspects were arrested with the assistance of the RCMP police helicopter and police dog services.
Search warrants were executed in the area and as a result the suspected firearm used in the offence was recovered.
Clarence Northwest, 36, a resident of Samson Cree Nation, has been charged with:
- Kidnapping with a firearm;
- Discharge firearm with intent;
- Aggravated assault;
- Adult intimidation;
- Pursuit involved Flight from Peace Officer & 13 Additional charges.
Silas Soosay, 25, and Chevez Louis, 18, both residents of Samson Cree Nation, have been charged with:
- Kidnapping with a firearm;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm & 4 additional charges.
Northwest, Soosay and Louis were taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody.
They are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice on Feb. 27 and Mar. 4, 2025, in Wetaskiwin.
Police are actively investigating the firearm that was seized.
