A freezing drizzle could be on the way for the southeast as the weekend comes in.

The unseasonably warm temperatures we've experienced over the past week may soon be joined by less-than-ideal weather as a system is overhead in the southeast.

Temperatures will be closer to the freezing point heading into the weekend, and some precipitation could potentially freeze the area.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg says that after that weather there will be a bit of a break on the weekend.

"It's kind of the passage of a low pressure system and the cold front. So the cold front will be passing through, might get a bit of cloud and a chance of flurries with this passage, and with this cold front temperatures will be falling through the rest of the morning."

"A little bit on the cooler side for say tonight and then into tomorrow, but tomorrow's high temperature recovers to a high of zero for the day. So a bit nicer there."

While the current forecast shows flurries hitting the area, Berg says that thanks to the warmer air, Monday may also feel that cold precipitation.

"There's some little stratus clouds which give some potential for a freezing drizzle with how saturated the air is, how much humidity there is at lower levels. With that, you get some freezing drizzle potential in the overnight hours, especially during the day today. So something to watch out for, might get some icy surfaces and could have to be careful with driving and walking around."

That might be followed soon after by another system promising precipitation immediately after the weekend.

"There's a bit of a low pressure system that's going through from Montana and Wyoming eastward and the northern edge of it looks to be clipping the far South of the Canadian Prairies as it goes through, so there's a possibility of some flurries. Might also be some decent northerly winds, so maybe gusting to about 50 or 60 kilometers per hour. That combined with some falling snow might reduce some visibilities Monday, Tuesday."

Berg says to expect temperatures to stick close to the freezing point for a bit before temperatures likely warm up again next weekend.
