The Humboldt Broncos will head out on their final multi-game road trip of the season, as they head to the Parkland region of the province, on Friday they tangle with the Yorkton Terriers and then on Saturday they square off with the Melville Millionaires.
It has been a while since the Broncos have been on the road for back-to-back games, the last occurrence was the final three games in 2024, when Humboldt met the Weyburn Red Wings and Estevan Bruins in a three-game trip.
After this weekend, Humboldt will have two more road games left this year, Tuesday, March 11 against Weyburn and the regular season finale on Friday, March 14.
With two weeks remaining in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season, the Broncos are sitting in 7th spot. There is still time for Humboldt to move up the standings as they trail Battlefords by a point and Melville by three points for 5th place. There are scenarios where Humboldt can clinch a playoff spot this weekend, but that requires a combination of victories and losses
Revenge will be on the mind for the Broncos as they meet the Terriers for the final time this season. In their last matchup on Family Day, Yorkton defeated Humboldt in a shootout and proceeded with some celebration in front of a packed crowd at the Elgar Petersen Arena. It’s something the team hasn’t forgotten about says Assistant head coach Carter Hansen, who hopes the thought of redemption can fuel the green and gold to an important win.
“I haven’t forgotten, I don’t think anyone else in that room has forgotten the lengthy celebration with a couple of stick raises at centre ice, so we’ll see how that goes, but at the end of the day, we just need two points.”
Humboldt will have the same lineup tonight in Yorkton as they did on Wednesday against Weyburn, except there will be some shuffling with the forward lines.
Cade Kennedy has been moved up to the top line with Kye Benoche and Jacob Strizzi. Jeter Korte and Michael Dowdall will skate with Marik Mamic. Maddox Amaral moves down to a line with Brayden Skogstad and Landen Stromme, leaving a youthful line of Rylan Hue, Tyce Penrod and ‘AP’ Owen Chapman.
The defence pairings remain the same and Dazza Mitchell will get his second straight start after he missed the previous three games due to injury.
Coverage for tonight’s game on Bolt FM begins at 6:45, the opening faceoff at 7:00.
