Plenty of heartbreak this weekend for local senior hockey teams competing in provincials. 

In the ‘A’ category, the Leroy Braves were eliminated by the Kyle Elks, after dropping a pair of games on home ice.  

After picking a game one win on the road, the Braves were defeated by the Elks 4-3 on Saturday and then 6-2 on Sunday. Kyle moves on to the North Final where they will meet the Kenaston Blizzard. 

The Wynard Monarchs season also came to an end after the Round Lake Bears finished them off with a 4-3 on Sunday, winning the best of three series 2-1. On Friday, the Monarchs picked up a 4-1 win which sent the series into the deciding game three. Round Lake will meet Lumsden in the South Final.  

In the ‘C’ category, the Lanigan Pirates opened the North Final against the Wilkie Outlaws with a 9-2 loss on the road. Lanigan’s chance to even up the series will be on Friday night. If the Pirates pick up a victory, game three is Sunday in Wilkie.  

Foam Lake has gained a 1-0 series lead in the South final after defeating the Assiniboia Rebels 7-3 on Saturday night. The Flyers have a chance to win the series on home ice on Saturday. If the Rebels win game two, game three is Sunday back in Foam Lake.  

 

The Long Lake Hockey League finals are set after the Drake Canucks completed their three-game sweep of the Watrous Winterhawks on Friday night with a 4-3 OT win. Drake will now face Foam Lake in the championship finals. No dates have been announced. 

 
In the Wheatland Hockey League, the St. Brieux/Lake Lenore Rivals season is over after the Kinistino Tigers won back-to-back games on the weekend to eliminate the Rivals in four games. After splitting the first two games, Kinistino defeated the Rivals 3-2 on Saturday in St. Brieux and then on Sunday the Tigers beat the Rivals 8-2 to move on to the league championship finals.  

The Jansen Jets and Tisdale Ramblers are heading to a deciding game five after Tisdale responded with a pair of wins on the weekend after Jansen opened with two wins. On Friday, the Ramblers won game three 3-2 and then outlasted the Jets 5-4 on Saturday night. The deciding game five happens Friday night in Tisdale.  

The finals are still not settled in the Twin Rivers Hockey League. After dropping game one, the Allan Flames picked up a pair of victories against the Birch Hills Blackhawks on the weekend to lead the best of five series 2-1, game four goes Friday night in Birch Hills.  

On the other side, the Willow Cree Chiefs lead the Rosthern Wheat Kings 2-1, with game four set for Friday night in Rosthern.
