The Estevan Skating Club wrapped up its competitive season at the Winter Classic Invitational over the weekend. Held annually on the first weekend of March, the event serves as the provincial championship and attracts skaters from across Saskatchewan, as well as Alberta and Manitoba.
“It was a really good competition,” said Estevan Skating Club coach Ashley Piper. “This marks the end of our season, and for our Star 4 to 10 skaters, the winners in each level take home a championship plaque.”
Estevan’s skaters delivered strong performances, with some aiming for personal bests while others competed for titles. “Rachel Duncan won the Star 9 and Star 10 Championship, which was really exciting for us,” Piper said.
She highlighted the event’s value in building experience. “Some are just starting their competition journey, while others are improving and growing more confident with each event,” she noted.

Estevan sent 14 skaters to the championship and will now shift its focus to the club’s annual showcase on Sunday, March 23. “Our figure skaters, CanSkaters, and Pre-CanSkaters will perform everything they’ve learned throughout the year,” Piper said, adding that preparations are already underway.
Reflecting on the season, she expressed pride in her athletes. “We’re so proud of the time and effort they’ve put in, and it was great to see that pay off this weekend.”
