The ice sparkled with vibrant energy on Saturday, March 1st, as the Winkler Skating Club’s highly anticipated 2025 Ice Show, Kaleidoscope of Colors, took over the Meridian Exhibition Centre’s Icon Arena. The annual showcase brought together skaters of all ages, dazzling a packed crowd with their skills, confidence, and passion for figure skating.

A celebration of skating and growth

Each year, the Ice Show marks the grand finale of the skating season, giving young athletes the chance to demonstrate how far they’ve come. For many, the transformation has been remarkable.

“In CanSkate specifically, we have kids who come onto the ice at the beginning of the year and can’t even stand,” shared Tanisha Wolfe, Head CanSkate Coach. “By the end of the season, those same kids are skating on their own—sometimes even moving past me because I’m too slow for them! It’s so fun to see.”

The Kaleidoscope of Colors theme shone brightly as each group performed a choreographed routine based on a specific color, complete with matching costumes and music selections that brought nostalgia and excitement to the audience.

A packed house for a stunning show

Charmaine Ens, a long-time leader at the Winkler Skating Club, was thrilled with the turnout. “We wanted to fill the house this year, and that’s exactly what happened! It’s always amazing to see the community come out and support our skaters.”

From the tiniest skaters in their first year on the ice to experienced performers showcasing dynamic moves, the energy was electric. Emma Penner, who skated in her first-ever Ice Show, said, “I love figure skating because it’s fun! My favorite move I learned this year was the spread eagle.”

Aria Enns, another young skater, excitedly described her routine. “I skated in pink! We did lots of figure skating moves, including cross cuts—where you cross your legs together and go backward.”

Honoring excellence on the ice

One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of this year’s award winners. The 2025 StarSkater of the Year was awarded to Abigail Nelson, recognizing her dedication, improvement, and love for the sport.

More than just a performance

Beyond the routines, the Ice Show also served as a fundraiser to support the club’s future programs. Attendees had the opportunity to contribute through a silver donation at the door and a silent auction featuring prizes donated by local businesses.

“Skating is such a great skill to have, whether for hockey, figure skating, or just for fun,” said Wolfe. “It builds confidence, balance, and resilience—things that go beyond the rink.”

As the final performances wrapped up and skaters took their bows, the crowd erupted in applause, celebrating another successful season of hard work and dedication. The Winkler Skating Club’s 2025 Ice Show was truly a kaleidoscope of talent, color, and community spirit.
