Story from Portage Terriers Marketing Director, Cody Buhler
A solid effort from top to bottom lifted the Portage Terriers over the Winnipeg Blues on Wednesday night 5-1.
Playing one forward short, the Terriers were able to roll all four lines all night. Winnipeg started the game strong and kept Portage on their heels. Midway through the first Cam Bullinger scored his 20th of the season on the power play to open the scoring for Portage.
Less than two minutes later, with a delayed penalty coming to the Blues, Dawson Madden slipped the puck five-hole on Sam Couture for his first of the night. Despite getting outshot 12-9, it was 2-0 Portage after 20.
The Terriers started to roll in the second period and eventually they scored again. Decker Mujcin scored his 20th of the season finishing off a tic tac toe passing play from Bullinger and Tristan Gravenor. 3-0 Portage after 2.
The Blues showed some signs of life in the third period breaking Ryan Velan’s shutout bid and making it 3-1. The Terriers regained control and got two more goals from Madden and Scott Cousins.
With the win, the Terriers can finish no lower than third in the eastern division. They are back in action on Friday night in Dauphin.
