The southeast is looking at a bit of a break this weekend as temperatures are set to be well above normal for this time of year. Beginning on Saturday and ending Monday, the warm bump will see temperatures approach the double digits in what will feel like an early spring.
Some nighttime lows will also drop to zero, leading to some of the first 24-hour periods of positive temperatures in 2025.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg says the weekend will also see some clear skies, adding to the warmth.
"It looks like there's more of a high pressure influence or getting into some sort of warm sector type of activity where it's just typically just sunny and warm."
Spring hasn't started yet, however, as a short cooling down is expected to take place on Monday night.
Berg says that may even bring a reminder that we're still in winter.
"Looks like a little tiny bit of a system that comes through. It might drop a little bit of snow, but it doesn't look to be very appreciable. But then, a bit of a wind shift and getting the temperatures that are a lot closer to normal with the high of maybe around zero to plus two or so."
We'll then see temperatures pick up a little bit in the middle of next week before another downturn at the end, along with a chance of snow.
Berg advises people to get out this weekend and enjoy the sun and warm weather while we have it, while also keeping in mind that it's still technically winter and taking the proper precautions.
