Carter Hansen will remain behind the bench for the Humboldt Broncos for the foreseeable future.

On Thursday, the Broncos announced Hansen has agreed to a three-year contract extension and has been promoted to Associate Coach.

Hansen originally joined the Broncos as an assistant coach midway through the 2021-22 season. During his time with the green and gold, he has helped guiding the team to a 120-54-6-4 record and three straight playoff appearances including back-to-back SJHL semi-finals.

In a team release, President Amanda Schlachter commented, “The Humboldt Broncos Board of Directors, alongside GM Brayden Klimosko, are very happy to extend Carter. Carter has grown so much since joining the Broncos as a coach and his passion and dedication towards the team and the community is overwhelming positive and very clear.”

Broncos HC/GM Brayden Klimosko added, “I’ve had some really strong assistant coaches in the past and Carter is as good as any. He has elite level video skills set and is able to get the most out of his players, they really respect him. He’s going to have a ton of opportunities in the future with his coaching career, and I’m really looking forward to working with him for another three years.”

During his playing career, Hansen spent time in the SJHL, WHL and U SPORTS. He helped the Melfort Mustangs claim the SJHL Championship in 2016.

Hansen along with his wife Bobbi-Jo have settled in Humboldt and also welcomed their first child together in January of last year.

“I am so happy and excited to be staying in Humboldt. My wife and I started our family here with our daughter Ellie, and we want to continue to grow as a family here in a wonderful community. The Broncos organization is one best in the country and one of the best at getting players onto the next level. It will give me the chance to work, to improve and to move myself on as well in the future and I’m extremely grateful for that opportunity,” said Hansen.

This past fall, Hansen was the video coach for Team Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge and was the coach for Team SJHL at the Western All-Star Showcase in Warman.
