Westman area singer-songwriter, Julianna Moore, is finally able to talk about being a contender on this season's Canada's Got Talent, being one of the only two Manitobans on this year's show.
Julianna Moore hails from St. Lazare, now lives in Brandon and is a music teacher in the Ecole O'Kelly School in Shilo, MB. She is a member of two Westman area community choirs; Konektis and Novos and performs at a variety of local venues with her beautiful voice while playing multiple instruments she's gifted in, including guitar.
Moore sent in her audition tape the summer of 2023 for the '24 Canada's Got Talent season, but didn't make it through that round. But patience paid off and later in the year Moore was asked if she'd be interested in participating in the 2025 season. She says it was a bit of a process, but she's thrilled to be in this year's line-up of Canadian talent with the season premier taking place next week Tuesday, March 18th on City TV.
For her audition tape Moore shared a favorite song from one of her favorite Canadian performers, Shania Twain's From this Moment, not realizing Twain was in fact one of the judges for this year's show.
"I'm more into country, so I thought I'd just go with something that I'm comfortable with and yeah, so it was so weird how it worked out that she was judging," shares Moore. "It's honestly really surreal. It's been a long process, but even still, I wasn't believing that I was auditioning until I was on stage. And even then, it was like Shania Twain's right in front of me? Like what?"
The live audition took place last October in Niagara Falls, but Moore hasn't been able to share much about the experience as everything is still 'under wraps' until the show actually airs.
When asked how it felt to perform live in front of the judges, one of them being Shania Twain, Moore said she was terrified.
"Trust me, I probably didn't sleep like, barely at all the week leading up to it because I was just so nervous but so excited at the same time," explains Moore. "Yeah, it was very crazy to be able to say that I did that. I was just very, very excited and I feel really blessed to be able to have that chance to have even an audition."
With the premier coming up next Tuesday, Moore says it will be fun to watch herself and the other contestants.
"I'm excited for it all to roll out and to be able to watch the other acts because you know, I didn't get to hear anyone or see anybody else. And I'm really excited to be able to watch myself. That's all I really wanted was to be able to at least have that chance to go and get my voice out there a little bit more."
To her fellow Canadians, Julianna encourages performers to keep going, keep trying to get out there and not to give up.
"Exactly that! Like I would just say, keep trying. No matter what, you have a gift and it doesn't matter whether you make it or not but as long as you try it, just keep trying. And you know what? There's so much talent out in the world, but you are unique in your own way, so try to share that as much as you can with the world! Just don't give up."
To win the $1,000,000 prize would be an amazing accomplishment for this Manitoban. Moore says she'd like to travel a bit, but this singer-songwriter has her sights on the epicenter of country music.
"I'd love to go to Nashville and be able to learn from the pros and be able to kind of put some money down to record music. That's been a dream my entire life. So, I think that's probably the first step."
As this season of Canada's Got Talent unfolds, we'll no doubt be cheering for our two Manitobans, Julianna Moore and Steinbach area Jon Stoesz.
"I've been waiting my entire life for this," shares Moore. "Like I said, like this has been a dream of mine for, like, since I hit the stage at 7. And so, to have this opportunity, I'm just ready to give it everything I have and to work for my dreams."
