On Sunday, Mark Carney claimed the leadership position for the Federal Liberals and is set to become the next Prime Minister of Canada following a swearing in ceremony.
Both the Saskatchewan Premier and opposition leader gave their reaction to the news.
Scott Moe said in a social media posting, hopes to see Carney follow through on eliminating the Consumer Carbon Tax. The Saskatchewan Premier added that Carney provide a response to the tariffs that were issued by China on the weekend. Moe also wondered what Carney’s response would be to the impending tariffs from United States President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Sask NDP leader Carla Beck said that now is the time for a federal election. In a release on Monday, she pointed out with the threat of tariffs from Trump, there should be a leader in Ottawa to protect the Canadian economy.
Beck added there should be a leader who will follow through with a plan to help the people of the province including major investments in rail lines, pipelines, power lines, and a plan to twin the Trans-Canada Highway from coast to coast.
