During Monday’s City Council Executive meeting, the monthly report for Protective Services was reported by Director Mike Kwasnica.
In February, the Fire Department responded to six incidents within the city, including a pair of fire alarm responses.
As well, they Fire Department attended four incidents in the area, including a vehicle fire, a structural fire, a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision and a single vehicle rollover.
The Community Safety Officer's (CSO) report was highlighted by the increasing wildlife population within the city. There were several complaints from residents about the wildlife within the community. The community safety officer met with one resident who was the subject of the complaints since he was feeding the wildlife. After meeting with the CSO, the resident agreed to stop feeding the wildlife. There is currently no bylaw or Provincial Act that prohibits anyone from feeding the wildlife.
For the Humboldt RCMP, there were a few more incidents they responded to February (104) as compared to January (100). It was also a slight increase from February of 2024 (102).
There was more traffic offences with charges laid last month (21) compared to February of 2024 (16). There were also more cases of mischief last month (8) compared to last year at this time (2). Last month there was two cases of impaired operation of a motor vehicle after there was none in February of 2024 and there were two cases of theft of under $5,000 compared to none in 2024.
