The Estevan Police Service has been busy over the week with a few calls to start things off and a sam info event bring planned out.
On March 10, they received a request to do a wellbeing check on an Estevan resident, and they found that the individual was fine.
Police received a report of a suspicious male in the city core area. When attending the area, members were unable to locate the individual, who is believed to be known by police. Police noted that nothing criminal appeared to have occurred related to the report.
A call was received from a concerned passerby about a youth playing on the train trestle on the west end of the city over Highway 39. Police went to the scene but the youth was no longer present.
Police started an investigation into an individual making Facebook posts that may be defamatory towards a local business following a report.
On March 11th, the EPS received a report of a scam where the complainant thought they were making a purchase on a business website which turned out to be fraudulent. When the complainant called the business about the orders they placed, they were told there was no order. Police continue to investigate.
Another report was received of fraudulent charges on an individual’s credit card, with police having an ongoing investigation into that.
A report came in of a suspicious male hanging around a local sports club. After receiving a detailed description of the individual, members will be increasing patrols in the area to contact and identify the person.
A disturbance was reported in the Pleasantdale area of the city with police responding. After looking at the incident, police arrested a male for assault who was subsequently released on conditions, including to appear in Estevan Provincial Court in May to speak to the charge.
The EPS is also planning on hosting an information session later this month to help educate people on recent scam activity in the southeast. That'll be done in concert with some local banking institutions, held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Estevan on Monday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Topics on the agenda will include scams through e-mails, text messages, third party gift cards, fake identity romance, false investments and CRA scams.
The EPS will not be charging anyone to attend with the session open to anyone interested in attending to learn more.
