The Estevan City Council has approved a proclamation recognizing March as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and March 25, 2025, as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day.
During the council meeting, a representative requested that the city officially recognize the awareness campaign by lighting City Hall and the water tower in green throughout March. Additionally, the proclamation will be read at the March 24, 2025, council meeting, as March 25 falls outside the regular meeting schedule.
Councillor Dave Elliot made the motion to approve the proclamation, emphasizing the importance of incorporating the awareness initiative into the city's annual lighting plans. Councillor Matthew Dubowski seconded the motion, and council members voiced their support.
A discussion followed regarding the details of the proclamation, with council clarifying that while the awareness month spans all of March, the official awareness day is specifically on March 25.
One council member also highlighted the personal significance of the proclamation for a young community member, underscoring the importance of the city's support.
As per city policy, representatives of the cerebral palsy awareness campaign will need to attend in person to officially present the proclamation.
With no objections, council members voted unanimously in favor of the initiative.
