Winkler musician Jason Friesen is no stranger to the stage. Having grown up in a family of performers, his musical journey has taken him across Canada, Belize, and beyond. Now, Friesen is looking to bring his talents closer to home—both to fulfill his passion for music and to help support his family.

From Family Ministry to a Solo Career

Music has always been a central part of Friesen’s life. He and his brothers started performing at a young age under the guidance of their father, playing in church settings and on the mission field. Their family’s ministry has taken them around the world, including Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, and even Germany.

While Friesen continues to be involved in ministry, he has also carved out his own identity as a musician. “I took some guitar lessons at Bible College, and they really pushed me to expand my skills,” he shares. “That’s where I developed a real interest in instrumental music.”

A desire to play locally

Although he has performed at events such as Christmas banquets and coffeehouse concerts, Friesen is eager to find more local opportunities to share his music. “You can’t have too much music in my opinion,” he says with a smile.

Friesen’s musical abilities extend beyond solo guitar performances—he has experience with electric guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments in various styles. “Most of my background is in country, gospel, and praise and worship, but I’ve been exploring blues as well,” he notes. “I’d love to collaborate with different bands and musicians. Playing with new people always brings a fresh perspective.”

Supporting his family through music

Beyond his love for performing, Friesen is also seeking opportunities to help with mounting medical expenses for his wife, who has ongoing health conditions. “If I can find a way to play more music while also raising funds for my family—that would be great,” he shares.

For those interested in hiring Friesen for an event—whether as background instrumental music or as a featured performer—he can be reached via text at 204-384-8144, or on social media.

“I just love to play,” he says. “Whether it’s a house concert, a coffee shop gig, or joining a band, I’m always excited for new opportunities.”

Looking ahead

With several original compositions already under his belt, Friesen is eager to bring his music to more local audiences. He recently recorded his latest pieces, “Take Aim” and “Ruach,” which he hopes to release soon.

As he continues to seek out new performance opportunities, Friesen remains committed to both his music and his family. “Winkler has been a great place to raise our kids,” he says. “Now, I just hope to find more ways to make music here too.”
