Get ready for a night of delicious chili, handmade pottery, and community spirit as the Pembina Hills Arts Council hosts its highly anticipated Chili Bowl FUNdraiser on Friday (March 14th) from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
For just $35 per ticket, attendees will enjoy a warm and hearty bowl of chili, served in a beautifully handcrafted bowl—one they can take home as a keepsake!
Supporting local art programs
This event isn’t just about great food; it’s about supporting local art initiatives. All proceeds go toward sustaining and growing the pottery studio and other creative programs at the Pembina Hills Art Council.
“Our pottery program is a fairly expensive one to run,” says Jennifer Smirl, Gallery Director of Pembina Hills Art Council. “We have six or seven pottery wheels, clay, glazes, and we do all the firing in-house. Events like this help us keep these programs running and affordable for our community.”
Smirl, who has been a potter for over 20 years, takes pride in the quality and affordability of the council’s studio. “What we offer for $75 a month is significantly lower than what you’d pay elsewhere, and that includes free clay recycling and even our own custom-made glazes.”
Handmade bowls & delicious chili
One of the event’s most exciting aspects is the unique handmade bowls created by local potters.
“We have about 80 bowls made by our studio time members specifically for this event,” says Smirl. “They are hefty-sized, beautifully crafted, and they go fast. If you want first pick, I suggest coming early!”
Attendees will also enjoy a choice of meat or vegetarian chili, prepared by some of the community’s best volunteers, including Margie Hildebrand and Deb Peterson. Extra toppings and drinks will also be available.
Get your tickets before they’re gone!
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online in advance to secure a bowl. Walk-ins are welcome, but availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“If you want to make sure you get a bowl—and the best selection—it’s best to buy your ticket ahead of time and arrive early,” Smirl advises. “Walk-up purchases are welcome, but the most sought-after bowls will go fast!”
“This isn’t just a fundraiser—it’s a way for us to support a program that we, as a community, get to use,” Smirl emphasizes. “So if you love pottery, or just love good food, come on out and help us keep this amazing program alive.”
The Chili Bowl FUNdraiser will take place at the Pembina Hills Arts Council, 352 Stephen St., Morden, MB, on March 14th from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
