The R.M. of Enniskillen No. 3 received recognition for enhancing community well-being through the 18th annual Saskatchewan Municipal Awards.
The municipality was awarded the Top Rural Municipal Initiative for the RM of Enniskillen Grazing Project.
The awards celebrate innovative practices by Saskatchewan municipal governments. The projects highlight excellence in sustainable land stewardship, accessibility, cooperation, and addressing community needs.
The R.M. acquired land along the Souris River, originally intended for gravel extraction, but saw its potential as pastureland. A fence has been built, and a community grazing plan has been developed. The initiative is one of the first of its kind. Future plans include offering pasture tours for school groups and other interested parties. The tours will educate visitors on carbon sequestration, regenerative agriculture, animal impact, stock density, and soil armour.
The awards committee includes partners from the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) and the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.
Selection committee members noted that many nominated projects made an impact by addressing essential community needs. Initiatives fostered a sense of unity and empowerment among citizens by targeting specific local challenges.
