The Greystone community isn't at full build out, but that hasn't prevented its residents from being proactive in establishing a community association.
The association is now an official nonprofit society and is busy planning events and welcoming more residents to become involved.
Rob Wollin, one of its directors, says an enthusiastic response to a block party in June led to its creation.
"Even before we knew we'd be an association, everyone had a common interest. They all wanted to see the community thrive and to be welcoming and inclusive."
He says residents have expressed interest in a wide range of community-building initiatives in addition to future block parties and social events.
"We've got people who are keen gardeners who want to see some sort of community garden over time. We've got people who are interested in the governance who want to make sure we can interact with the town appropriately when anything happens or when we're asked about different issues. There's a whole range of interests, really."
“It’s all part of a for-neighbors-by-neighbors ethos," adds Kyle Loewen, also an association director. "To keep building that sense of pride and belonging, we’re keen to hear from any new Greystone residents."
A website is now being developed but in the meantime, Greystone residents interested in joining and learning more about what's in the works can email info@greystonecommunity.ca.
