Estevan police responded to a busy weekend of calls, including a power outage that knocked out traffic lights, an assault arrest, and reports of disturbing social media messages.
On March 14, police received multiple calls about traffic lights being out due to a power outage. Officers reminded the public that in such situations, intersections should be treated as four-way stops and extra caution should be used.
Officers conducted a well-being check on a student after a principal reported the student had not shown up for school Friday morning. The student was found safe with a parent, and the school was updated.
Police also received a report of an individual taking photos of their partner and distributing them without consent. The matter remains under investigation.
On March 15, PA911 alerted police to an open phone line with no response. The phone was traced to an Estevan apartment complex. Officers, with assistance from partner organizations, located the caller through online searches. The investigation determined there was no emergency.
That morning, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the east-central area, where a person was reported to be acting violently toward others. A 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault. She will make her first court appearance in May.
Later that day, a resident reported what they believed to be blood spattered on a building in their yard. Police determined it was not blood.
Police also received a report of an erratic driver in the 400 block of Fourth Street. Officers were tied up on another call, but the complainant provided a license plate. The matter remains under investigation.
Electronic monitoring alerted police to an Estevan man believed to be breaching curfew conditions. He was located and arrested and will appear in court to speak to the charges.
Officers attended a disturbance in the south end of the city. They mediated the matter, and one person left for the night.
Police also responded to a fight downtown, but the involved parties had left before officers arrived.
On March 16, officers were called to a dispute in the west-central area, where two neighbours were arguing about a cellphone. The matter remains under investigation.
A report was received of a group of youths entering a vacant residence in the Willow Park Greens trailer park. They were located and cautioned about trespassing.
Later, police received a complaint about excessive noise from an apartment in central Estevan. Officers attended, spoke with the resident, and issued a warning about the noise bylaw.
A report was also received about a social media post containing disturbing messages directed at members of the public. The matter remains under investigation.
Following an investigation into alleged property offences, a 19-year-old Estevan woman was arrested and charged with public mischief and fabricating evidence. She will appear in court in May.
Traffic stops and sobriety checks were conducted throughout the weekend. Several calls for the PACT resources were referred during various calls for service.
