SARM held its annual convention, and representatives from several organizations attended, including those representing Estevan's new nursing home, which is currently under construction. The Estevan Regional Nursing Home Committee also had that opportunity, with members Ken Wallewein, Mona Dukart, and Marnell Eagles in attendance.
Lori Carr, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors, and Remote Health, and Jeremy Cockrill, Minister of Health, attended that meeting.
Eagles says that the conversation between the committee and the ministers was very positive.
"We were able to ask the questions that the Estevan area residents have been so eager to hear, and we got positive feedback from both ministers."
Having a more open meeting like the one at the SARM convention was appreciated by Eagles.
"We generally don't ever get to meet with Jeremy Cockrill as well as Minister Carr. It was a very open and honest meeting. There were no hidden doors, hidden agenda. It was exactly what we wanted to hear from them."
In terms of project progress, Eagles says that the province is looking to hire a project manager over the next couple of weeks. The manager would then report to the committee whenever a new development happened with a project.
The project also has the project design in progress, with the team hoping to be finished this spring, with the committee giving their feedback on the designs.
"That made us extremely happy," said Eagles, "Because all along our committee and some of the past committee members that are no longer with us have been a driving force to have an input on this facility and we are so happy to carry out their dreams, carry out their wishes, and get that going front and centre this spring."
Eagles says all the committee members in attendance were pleased with the progress made and hopes to see that take off this spring.
