A fundraiser this past weekend saw a lot of action with plenty of money raised to help a local woman battling cancer. The fundraiser, bringing in money to help Amanda Minchin, managed to attract around 475 people and raise over $100,000.

The event saw people come out from all walks of life, with Estevan Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Kyle Luc talking about the main attractions.

"We had Norm Mack from Mack Auction Company. He came in, we had a live auction. We had several donations throughout the community and throughout the province, actually with items coming forward for the silent auction. We had some raffle prizes going around as well as 50/50s. Then we had Amanda's hockey team there. They were the bartenders helping us out. So, we had a good night of fun and drinks and socializing and everyone getting together for Amanda."

The total fundraiser brought in over $100,000 to help out Minchin, a great outcome for the event.

Luc says that all that support for a fellow emergency worker, who's been working on the force for seven years, is well deserved.

"She is one of our firefighters here in Estevan Fire Rescue, so we are like a big family around here. When we learned of Amanda becoming sick, we wanted to do something that we could help her get through these times. It's tough what she's going through, so we all kind of got together a few of us here and held this event and it went off way better than we thought it would."

Minchin was also at the event, with Luc saying she was in pretty good spirits during the night seeing all that support.

Luc says that the support that came out during the night and throughout Minchin's battle has been great to see from the community.

"It's been absolutely phenomenal. The support that we had, and it's not just this fundraiser, it seems like any time there's something that people are coming together for in Estevan fundraising, this community, this support is always unreal. We get a bunch of businesses and people in town and if there's one community that knows how to support, it's definitely Estevan."

Luc says people can make donations to Minchin's trust account through e-transfers to amandaminchintrust@gmail.com.
