On Wednesday, Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) named Chris Adamson as the new Associate Superintendent of Learning Services.

Adamson will assume the role in August 2025.

“Chris is highly regarded in his current and previous roles as a skilled educator and leader who has developed high levels of trust with students, parents, and staff as well as school and division administrators,” says Kurt Sacher, Superintendent of Chinook’s Edge School Division. “We appreciate Chris’ deep commitment to instructional leadership, professional learning, and system-wide improvement.”

Adamson is currently the Principal of Innisfail High School, where he previously served as Vice-Principal. Before joining Chinook’s Edge, he held Principal and Vice-Principal roles at K-9 and K-12 schools in the Fort Vermilion School Division.

“Chris brings skill, passion, and experience to the areas of curriculum implementation, quality instruction and assessment, collaborative leadership, and using data to inform the way he leads. These qualities will serve him well as he supports teachers, administrators, and student learning across our school division,” shared Sacher.

According to Chinook's Edge, he has presented at the Central Alberta Regional Consortium (CARC), the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS), ULead Conference, Jigsaw Learning events, and for other school divisions across Alberta. Adamson served on the Chinook’s Edge complex needs committee and has led some of the work in the areas of collaborative problem-solving and collaborative response, two of the division’s approaches to supporting student needs.

“I applied for this position because I am passionate about learning and leadership,” says Chris Adamson. “ I’m excited for the opportunity to collaborate with the division leadership and learning services team, as well as schools from kindergarten to Grade 12. I look forward to celebrating their successes and supporting them as we move learning forward.”

Adamson graduated from the University of Calgary with a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership, Assessment, and Educational Research. In addition, he has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick. He also earned the University of Calgary's Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard (SLQS) certificate.

The school division has 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury, Crossfield and Carstairs. Chinook's Edge has a total of 11,000 students across 40 Central Alberta schools.

Back in February, the CESD Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Dr. Ryan Sawula as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective June 2, 2025.
