This beloved 35th annual Water Valley Stud Auction is set to take place tonight (Mar 22), at the Water Valley Community Hall.
“It started as a fundraiser selling stud horse fees to raise money for the community, and it’s grown into a big community auction,” says Robin Smith, the auction coordinator,. “We don't have stud horses anymore, but we still have all kinds of items, home goods, and just about anything you could want or need.”
The event is entirely volunteer-run and thrives thanks to the generous donations from Water Valley and the surrounding areas, including Cochrane. “The auction is supported year after year by incredible donors,” Smith says. “It's a community effort, and the people really come together to make it a success.”
The evening kicks off with the doors opening at 4:30 p.m., followed by a delicious supper at 5:00 p.m. A silent auction will run from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., featuring around 100 to 200 items.
The live auction begins at 7:00 p.m., and that’s when the excitement truly takes off. “When the auctioneers get on stage, the fireworks begin. The community is really supportive, and people are there to have fun and raise money”
The live auction will offer a diverse range of items. “You can bid on anything from tickets to Flames games to spa treatments, generators, and more,” says Smith.
“There’s something for everyone, from small items to big-ticket experiences.”
Last year, the auction raised an impressive $45,000, and Smith hopes to come close to that total this year. “The goal is to bring people together, have a great time, and raise money for the Water Valley Community Association,” she says. “It’s not just about the money, it’s about the community spirit.”
