The Weyburn Firefighters Association on September 13th will present the 2025 Fire Ball, a fundraising opportunity that provides a night out for guests - both men and women.
The event will replace their Ladies Night fundraiser, usually held in May. However, that event hasn't been held since 2023. Their fundraiser last year was a barbeque at the Gifted Summer Art Market.
Firefighter Jola Erb said the change had been discussed throughout the year.
"We wanted a new change, and someone brainstormed the idea of having it be cabaret-style, as many years ago they had the Harvest Fling, and it was a big thing."
She said ticket sales for their Ladies Night had been declining, so in addition to changing the time of year for the event, they have also made it open to everyone.
After all, it is a fundraiser for training our local firefighters.
"[It's] a fundraiser for training equipment. It helps us with our skills and upkeep with our training. We do various things within our training structure, so we have to maintain our fog machine, batteries, just things like that, just so we can keep practicing with our tools, burning hay that we use for simulations of live fires," she explained.
She said they have several more female firefighters as part of their team in recent years as well.
"We've had many new firefighters join us recently, so getting them involved with our training and providing as many resources we can."
While the $70 tickets will go on sale April 1st for the fall event, they are now putting out a call for donations of silent auction items, which was a regular part of the Ladies Night, as was a 50/50 raffle, which will also be included this year. Entertainment will be provided by the local band Moody Hollow, and there will be a brisket supper at 6:30. The doors will open at 5 p.m.
"They're going to play throughout the night. We're very excited for them to play for us."
The Fire Ball will be held September 13th at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Hall. Tickets will be available through members of the Weyburn Firefighters Association and at Pharmasave.
There is a chance the 19+ event will have a theme, but that will be announced closer to the date.
Tickets are sold individually but businesses and organizations are welcome to reserve a table of eight.
