Olympic gold medalist, former boxer, savvy businessman and preacher George Foreman has died.

Foreman's family say he died peacefully today surrounded by loved ones.

"A devout preacher, devoted husband, loving father and proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose," said his family in a post on Instagram.

In 2023, his life story was featured in faith-based film called Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World.

It followed the true story of Foreman's life, from his rise to international acclaim as a boxer, Olympic gold medalist, businessman and his path to faith and minsitry.

In 1977, Foreman retired after a boxing match with Jimmy Young and a near death experience following that fight.

He became a born-again Christian following that incident and in 1980 he became an ordained minister. He started preaching on the street before becoming a preacher at Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Houston.

"A humanitarian,  an Olympian, and two time heavy weight champion of the world, he was deeply respected - a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family."

The family says they are thankful for the support they've been receiving.

"We are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honour the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own."

It is unclear as to what led to his death.

Foreman was 76.
