Fountain Tire is ringing in spring with savings, safety tips, and superior mechanical services!
While Fountain Tire opened their Portage la Prairie location over 20 years ago, the company has been a Canadian fixture since 1956. A familiar name and sight across the country, they’re a trustworthy source for farm and road services.
“We deal with all kinds of tires, from your wheelbarrow to your tractor and everything in between,” says owner and manager Ken Walter. “Our mechanical department can take care of all your car and truck needs- alignments, batteries, oil changes, suspension.”
The company also boasts two service trucks that can handle most calls- a 5-ton with a picker, and ¾-ton for on-road services. Farm-wise, Fountain Tire is often called upon for quick flat repairs or tire mounts out in the field.
“As an owner of a small farm operation,” Ken shares, “I understand the importance of limited downtime, especially when it comes to seeding and harvest time.”
As seeding season approaches, keeping your machinery in top form is of the utmost importance. Tire inspections and gauging is a familiar task to farmers, many of who turn to Fountain Tire for repairs and/or replacements.
If you’re thinking more “road” than “field”, Ken lists alignments, brakes, and tread as top priorities.
"An alignment is important because it ensures that the tire meets the road properly. Alignments help extend tire life, even out the tire’s wear, and maximize fuel economy. Plus… your vehicle will drive smooth and straight. As for brakes, a good sign you need to come in is when you hear squealing or grinding, or it takes your vehicle longer to stop.”
Road conditions, vehicle type, and driving style will determine how fast your tires wear out. Tire rotations are a good way to get as much out of your tires as possible, and Ken notes that this should be done every 10,000 kilometers, or as per manufacturer warranty.
Tire replacement is also a common task at Fountain Tire. Tires should be replaced every 6 to 10 years, but special cases for earlier replacement include worn-down tread depth, and signs of cracking, bulging, or gouging.
