A GoFundMe campaign for two Cochrane men injured in a devastating car crash has raised nearly $50,000 in just a few days, overwhelming their families with gratitude.

On March 19, Brett Sabo and Klayton McElwain were in a serious accident while carpooling to work. Brett suffered internal injuries and fractured ribs, while Klayton remains in hospital with multiple broken bones and brain bleeds.

"The overwhelming support is just... I’m honestly speechless," says Merissa Sabo, Brett’s wife. "We were not expecting this at all."

Despite the tragedy, the community has rallied around Brett and Klayton. Donations continue to pour in to ease the financial burden of their long recoveries.

"We’ve had so many people stop by, bring us food, offer support, people I don’t even know have reached out," Merissa says.

"We feel so loved."

Brett is now recovering at home, but Klayton remains in hospital, facing a long road ahead. "He was touch and go for a while, but they have him stable," Merissa shares. "We’re just hoping for the best."

The fundraiser aims to cover medical costs and household expenses while both men are off work. Merissa says the financial relief means they can focus on healing rather than worrying about bills.

"When I saw the car, I had no idea how they survived," she says, recalling the terrifying morning of the crash. "The first responders did an amazing job. They worked so fast and kept everyone calm."
