Did you know that as a landowner or producer in AgriManitoba, you can access substantial funding for a wide range of land and water management projects?
Your local watershed district is here to help, providing the resources and guidance you need to get started — from financing to construction.
While funding may seem limited to land and water initiatives, it covers a broad spectrum of projects. If you’re looking to improve the health of your landscape and are located within the Redboine Watershed, you could qualify for funding and support.
Who approves projects?
Once the initial application process is completed, project approvals are determined by our committee, which consists of representatives from sub-watersheds within the Redboine District. We regularly fund up to 85% of most projects, with conservation incentives reaching up to $150 per acre.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff
Our Project Manager, Jennifer, can assist you in finding out if you’re eligible. Her role begins with offering support to landowners throughout the application process. She also coordinates site visits and provides ongoing support as projects develop.
Along the way, you’ll also meet our skilled technicians, Rob and Ainsley, who assess projects on-site, develop plans, draft designs, and assist with any required licensing. Depending on your needs, we can provide in-house labour, hire contractors, or allow you to complete the project yourself.
Water retention and erosion
One might ask what types of projects are eligible — the answer is many different types.
One example is water retention holding up to a maximum of 40ac/ft of storage. These can be temporary or permanent structures, including dams, berms and gated culverts. Grassed run and waterways play a crucial role in reducing erosion with overland flooding. We can repair existing waterways or survey and grade a new waterway.
This type of project addresses erosion control, which is a major issue throughout the watershed. Our technicians are trained in various mitigation techniques and are ready to implement them. Riparian areas are integral for the health of our water, and we can assist in plans to stabilize banks and plant trees.
Other eligible projects
Soil health projects such as cover crops, poly crops, and repairing alkaline, or saline soils can all also be funded under our programs.
Rotational Grazing projects such as fencing, alternate watering systems, windbreak panels, and implementing wells are also eligible as well as tree plantings such as shelterbelts, reforestation, and removal of degraded shelterbelts.
Incentive programs, other initiatives
We also offer multiple incentive programs that fund up to $150 per acre for conservation initiatives, such as wetland conservation (sloughs and potholes that temporarily hold water), grassed buffers, healthy riparian areas, shelterbelts and other soil health practices.
Redboine staff also helps with community initiatives, including abandoned well sealing, community project funding and educational programs such as Envirothon and Water Festivals.
The projects and programs above are just an overview of how the Redboine Watershed District supports the community. To learn more, visit our website at www.redboine.ca to explore available programs and applications.
Our process is simple — applications are accepted year-round, with no deadlines or restrictions on the number of projects you can apply for. You can submit multiple applications annually or apply for projects in consecutive years.
Thanks to our sustainable, long-term GROW funding, we are proud to offer continuous support to landowners, helping to improve the health of our watershed and agricultural landscape.
