Two individuals have been detained in custody following an illicit drug trade investigation in the North End.
On March 21, with assistance from the West District Community Support Unit, the Guns & Gangs Unit, the Tactical Support Team, the Drone Unit, and the North District General Patrol, officers went to an involved residence in the 500 block of Alfred Street.
While officers were at the residence, they observed one of the suspects flee on a scooter. The suspect was tracked down by the Drone Unit between residences in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue. He was observed discarding property before fleeing again. The suspect was arrested in the same block without incident after a brief foot pursuit.
Officers went to the area where the suspect was discarding property. A black satchel with approximately $6,900 in Canadian funds and a Glock-style replica handgun were found and seized as evidence.
With assistance from the Tactical Support Team and the Drone Unit, a search warrant of the Alfred Street residence was executed and led to the arrest of a second suspect.
The initial search of the residence led to a sawed-off shotgun being seized.
Officers also located a mastiff puppy which was brought to a veterinarian for treatment as it was suspected to not been properly taken care of.
The second suspect was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated after ingesting an unknown substance.
A search warrant for two attached suites at the Alfred Street residence resulted in the following items being seized:
- Assorted Firearm parts
- Assorted Ammunition
- Approximately 23 Grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $2,300)
- Score Sheets
- A contaminated Scale
- Packaging Materials
- Drug Paraphernalia
A 22-year-old from Winnipeg has been charged with multiple firearms-related offences, Traffic in Scheduled Substance – Cocaine, Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Possession of a Weapon, and Fail to Comply with Release Order Conditions.
A 15-year-old male, also of Winnipeg, faces similar charges and was detained in youth custody.
